Abstract

A study examines Gary Burns' 1987 interpretation of rhythm hooks (RH), his classification of them into various categories and application in examples of rock music. The RH categories are applied to Top 40 hits by the U.K. band the Police to test their veracity, and their educational value is also discussed.
