The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management aims to be recognised as the leading Australian-based institution providing tourism and hospitality management education, research and service activities to the Asia-Pacific Region. Our ideal is to serve our local region, and other regions of Australia, with internationally relevant programs and curricula, scholarly research, and extensive community engagement.
Our teaching is informed by research and our staff are highly committed to teaching and learning excellence.
One of the School's key goals is to help students acquire the business skills and knowledge to succeed within the global tourism industries. Indeed, our high quality graduates are in great demand for professional roles within the tourism and hospitality industries and are contributing to the ongoing development of those industries.
All our courses are accredited by the International Centre for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education* (THE-ICE) and we have an Industry Advisory Board of tourism leaders who help to ensure that our programs are relevant and responsive to current industry needs.
More than 90% of our students are employed by the time they graduate, having taken part in our Industry Internship Program and increasing numbers of them study overseas as part of our International Exchange Program.
The School actively supports innovative and industry relevant research and has two research centres to support this activity. The Centre for Gambling Education and Research conducts research and consulting, and provides educational programs in gambling operations, management, policy and impacts. Areas of research focus include: responsible gambling; corporate social responsibility in gambling; harm minimisation and consumer protection in gambling; problem gambling and gambling policy and impacts. The newly established Centre for Tourism, Leisure and Work incorporates research, consulting and extension with a focus on planning, policy, management and promoting community wellbeing. The core interrelated research, consulting and extension themes for the Centre include: tourism and sustainable, connected communities; tourism planning and policy; tourism asset management; tourism and events management; and regional tourism planning and management.
The University has campuses at Lismore, Coffs Harbour and the Tweed Heads Gold Coast. The University operates the prestigious 'The Hotel School Sydney' in partnership with Mulpha Australia.
Our academic and administrative team pride themselves in offering an unparalleled level of support to our on-campus students and the many students who study with us by distance education.
