The demand for achieving organisational efficiency through better work-force management is not new in the western world. However, how does strategic human resources management influence a developing country like Pakistan – motivated the researcher to investigate industry specific issues. Considerable research is being contributed on employee management – as they become a primary organisational asset and pivotal factor in its future existence. However, there has been an ever existing question – how their performance can be sustained or enhanced and what are the factors that enable an organisation to retain this talent. This persuaded to research performance appraisal (PA) practices within the Pakistan pharmaceutical industry. Based on the qualitative research data, a practical PA model is developed – which incorporates the country’s culture, organisational values and practices.
