This research aimed to understand the Clinical Teachers’ role in the professional socialisation of student nurses. A literature review informed an interview process with Clinical Teachers and graduates. Emergent themes were Professional Role Concept; Acculturation; Acquisition of Knowledge, Skill and Professional Values; Assimilation; and role model attributes of Clinical Teachers. This data subsequently informed development of a questionnaire, distributed to Clinical Teachers and students. Responses supported the themes and revealed student cohorts that found Clinical Teachers most integral to their professional socialisation and their development of cognitive, social and cultural knowledge required for acceptance within the nursing community.
